Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Railway & Bus sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.12%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 9.19% or 86.60 points to trade at 1,028.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) added 4.19% or 1,155.00 points to end at 28,735.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 4.18% or 256.00 points to 6,381.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd (TYO:5019), which fell 2.72% or 29.50 points to trade at 1,056.00 at the close. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:6302) declined 2.47% or 86.00 points to end at 3,402.00 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) was down 2.44% or 35.00 points to 1,398.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2262 to 1333 and 270 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 9.19% or 86.60 to 1,028.50.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.20% to 25.43.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.11% or 0.08 to $75.61 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.09% or 0.07 to hit $78.73 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.38% or 9.75 to trade at $2,543.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.41% to 144.54, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 161.02.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 100.83.
